The Samyang Group is stepping up to improve its fundamentals to respond to the new normal. The keywords are advancing “business structure” and “digital competencies.”

On July 6, the Samyang Group (Chairman Kim Yoon) announced that it held the “2020 Samyang Group Assembly” in the Samyang Discovery Center, Pangyo, Seongnam under the topic of “The New Normal and Business Transformation.” After compiling its performance for the first half of the year, the Samyang Group holds an assembly every year at which Chairman Kim explains its performance in the first half of the year and strategies for the second half and communicates with employees.

This year’s assembly was hosted online in response to COVID-19. The topic was chosen to examine the crisis and changes caused by COVID-19 and focus on sharing future strategies. This assembly is live-streamed across all of the group’s sites in Korea and abroad, and about 60 employees asked questions and talked with Chairman Kim through the teleconferencing system.

In this assembly, Chairman Kim asked employees to follow “rules to prevent COVID-19” and examined changes brought on by COVID-19. Then, he suggested “improving fundamentals” to prepare for the post-COVID-19 era. Chairman Kim highlighted a transition from being prediction-oriented to response-oriented, saying, “As uncertainty deepens, responding quickly to an unexpected crisis is more important than accurately predicting the future.”

To do so, he stressed “growth by advancing the business structure” as a strategy to prepare for uncertainties in the post-COVID-19  era. He believes that it is urgently necessary to “promote a specialty (highly functional) product-centered business targeting the global market” while “pursuing stable growth and better competitiveness in existing businesses.” He requested that employees discover convergent technologies to develop specialty products, stressing, “At a time of uncertainty, it has become more important to advance our business structure.”

Then, he focused on strengthening digital competences, saying, “Samyang’s survival in the future depends on the digital transformation project we are currently working on.” Chairman Kim has driven digital transformation since last year. Currently, the Samyang Group is implementing the digital transformation project, which includes rebuilding ERP and expanding robot process automation (RPA), to do work based on data and maximize productivity through digital technology. In this assembly, Chairman Kim repeatedly asked employees to find online sales or new business opportunities while successfully pursuing existing projects.

Finally, he asked them to not let their guard down until the crisis is completely over. “We work safely thanks to all of our employees’ efforts despite this challenging crisis.”
